Nancy Ann Kuntz September 26, 1938 - May 1, 2025
Nancy Ann Kuntz, age 86, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at 11:14 AM at Devils Lake Altru Hospital. She was surrounded by love and treated like a queen by the caring staff in her final days.
Nancy was born on September 26, 1938, in Fargo, North Dakota, at St. Luke's Hospital, to Alfred and Dorothy (Visby) Fowler. She was raised on a farm east of Arthur, ND, and graduated as valedictorian from Arthur High School in 1955. A star athlete and leader, Nancy especially excelled in basketball and was active in 4H, earning many awards for her work and creativity.
Nancy married Monte Swanson and together they raised three children: sons Kim and Shannon, and daughter Julie. In 1968, Nancy moved to Devils Lake, ND, and began a successful insurance career with State Farm. She later thrived at Powell-Kunkel Insurance before co-founding K & K Insurance, where she served as owner and agent. Nancy was known for her dedication, warmth, and her deep care for every client she served.
In 1971, Nancy married the love of her life, John Kuntz. Together, they built a life full of love, purpose, and adventure. They made their home on a horse ranch called 2 Arrow, where life was always full of energy and hard work. If Nancy wasn't at her office, she was often traveling with John or helping him shoe horses. They also opened their hearts and home to foster children, building lasting relationships with many over the years.
Nancy cherished time at her cabin on Round Lake, especially enjoying the sound of loons and the beauty of nature. Her hobbies included gardening, bird watching with her binoculars and bird book by the window, reading, and family gatherings. She especially loved floating in her pool with her nieces, playing cards with Carol, her sister-in-law and enjoying lady lunches with friends and family.
A devoted basketball lover, Nancy never missed a game. She had been a star player in high school and followed college basketball closely, knowing players and coaches by name. She often dreamed of coaching girls' basketball and proudly supported her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews at games, always offering encouragement and pointers.
Nancy also loved her morning "Ops Meetings" with John and Kim, and hosting card games and chats with visiting nieces. Her home was always open, warm, and full of life.
Nancy is survived by her beloved husband, John Kuntz; son Kim Swanson (Retired Military); daughter Julie Robbins and her husband Gregg Robbins of West Fargo, ND; granddaughter Lacey Kvamme and her husband Paul Kvamme of St. Paul, MN; grandson Lucas Swanson of New York; great-grandson Obie Kvamme and great granddaughter Shannon Dolly Kvamme; brother Jon “Jack” Fowler and his wife Mary Fowler of Bismarck, ND; and daughter-in-law Beth Madden. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Alfred Fowler, her brother Jim Fowler, and her son Shannon Swanson.
Nancy's great-grandchildren, Obie and Shannon, were the precious light of her life and brought immense joy and brightness to her days, along with Lucas and Lacey.
Nancy's legacy is one of love, strength, generosity, and unwavering care for others. Though we are deeply saddened by her passing, we are forever thankful for the time we shared with her. She leaves behind a legacy of joy, family, and compassion that will live on in all who knew her.
