Norma L. Jacobson

Norma L. Jacobson, 95 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Eventide, Devils Lake.

A Celebration of Life for Norma will be held on September 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Reverend Trudy Dumont officiating. A time of fellowship and remembrance will follow at the Gathering Place in the City Plaza.

Norma Lillian Jacobson was born January 19, 1927, in rural Maddock, ND, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Johnson) Anderson. She attended Aurora Township School for eight years and graduated from York High in 1944.

Norma met Russell Jacobson at a dance in York, ND and was quickly impressed by his dancing abilities. They were married in November of 1944 and were married for 58 years. They went dancing nearly every week and especially enjoyed the waltz and 2-step. They farmed for one year and in the fall of 1945, they purchased the Cities Service Station in Leeds, ND along with Russell’s two brothers, Norman, and Howard Jacobson. In 1954 she and Russell built the Blue Moon Motel in Leeds which they operated for 29 years. She enjoyed the adventure of meeting the different people that stopped at their motel and took considerable pride in meeting each person’s needs. In 1984 they moved to Devils Lake where she has resided since. The family would like to especially thank the loving care that she received from the staff of Eventide Memory Care during the past couple of years.

Norma was a past worthy matron of Leeds Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. She belonged to the Leeds Newcomers and Homemakers Club, the Leeds Evangelical Lutheran Church, and Ladies Church Circles. She became a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church after moving to Devils Lake and had been active with the Faith and Care Groups there. She was also a member of the Cancer Survivor’s Support Group.

Norma cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. People were important to her, and she was a caretaker of anyone who needed her help, always willing to give a ride, make a meal or visit a friend. She had a wonderful outlook on life and appreciated each day that God had given her. She and Russell enjoyed traveling together and she treasured her memories of visiting Niagara Falls, Washington, California, Arizona, and Colorado. She will always be associated with purple since most of her clothes, including her jewelry, had some shade of purple in it. Norma will be remembered for her class, her caring heart, her good nature, her potato klub and the unfailing love that she had for her family and friends.

Norma is survived by her sons Curtis (Peggy) Jacobson of Devils Lake ND, Wayne (Sheila) Jacobson, Devils Lake and Danny (Cathy) Jacobson also Devils Lake; grandchildren Michael (Amy) Jacobson and Cindy (John Nash) Jacobson of Devils Lake, Rebecca (Renee Newton) Needham of Dickinson, ND, Anthony  (Anna Doll) Jacobson of Fargo, ND and Sierra ( Amado) Lovato of Gypsum, CO; step grandchildren Lindsay (Tim) Roberts of Kansas City, MO and Thomas (Bailey Hale) McCurdy of Irasburg, VT; great grandchild Abigail Nash of Devils Lake and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son David, her sisters Ruth Burgess and Hilda Hall and brothers Arnold Anderson and Victor Anderson.
