Norma Nosbusch (Bye)

Norma C. Nosbusch, 82 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND with loving family at her side.

Mass of Christian Burial for Norma will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake, ND with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Munich, ND.

Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday, July 23^rd from 4:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 6:30 p.m.  Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. 

Norma Corinne, daughter of Oscar and Bernice (Jones) Sullivan was born on August 10, 1936 in West Helena, Arkansas. She was reared and educated in Mississippi and graduated from Greenville High School with the class of 1954. 

Norma was united in marriage to Marvin A. Bye in February of 1955 in Greenville where Marvin was stationed with the United States Air Force. He completed his initial commitment and was honorably discharged and they moved to Crary, North Dakota.  Marvin reenlisted and made the Air Force his career which meant as a military wife and mother, Norma would be required to live in many different locations, but always putting the needs of her family first. 

Military assignments included Mayville, ND, Helena, Montana, Okinawa, Japan and several years would be spent in Virginia. During Marvin’s deployment to Vietnam, the family lived in Helena, Arkansas. After Marvin retired the family returned to Crary, ND and in 1972 moved into Devils Lake and Norma would call it home the remainder of her life.  Marvin died on September 27, 1983.

Norma felt blessed to find love again and was united in marriage to Melvin Nosbusch on April 13, 1985 and they established their home in Devils Lake.

Norma first and foremost was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother. She cared for her mother until her passing in 2009 and her happiest days were spent with her family. She did work outside the home when her children were older including Gerrell’s, Coast to Coast, K-Mart and for 14 ½ years at WalMart, retiring from there. 

She was a talented seamstress and made most of her children’s clothes as they were growing up. She was an avid reader and found much joy in tending a garden.  In her younger years she did Day Care in her home and was a Sunday School teacher.  Norma enjoyed membership in the Rebekah’s Lodge and St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Norma is survived by her beloved family. Her husband Melvin; children Marvin (Patty) Bye Jr., Devils Lake, Carolyn Craig, Grafton, ND and Diane (Norbert) Motz, Glenwood, Iowa; Melvin’s children Steven (Deneen) Nosbusch, Larimore, ND, Chad Nosbusch, Duluth, MN and Sara (Vern) Nosbusch, Colorado Springs, CO; seven grandchildren Justin Bye, Bryan Bye, Kelsie (Nathan) Carrier; Travis (Michelle) Craig; Heather Praiswater, Fallon Motz, Kierney (Garrett) Buchanan; six great grandchildren Elly, Kennedy, Scarlett, Kassidy, Addison and Austin; four step grandchildren; brothers Dennis (Judy) Sullivan of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Leland (Suzanne) Sullivan of Grimsby, England; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law Betty Jean Hall, Munich, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter Kristin Nicole Bye and son-in-law Ralph Craig.

Casket Bearers will be Justin Bye, Bryan Bye, Travis Craig, Steven Nosbusch, Michael Erickstad and Cass Brekhus. Bringing forth of the Eucharistic Gifts will be great grandchildren Elly, Kennedy and Kassidy. Honorary Bearers are Audrey Joramo, Debbie Blomster, Deb Cavanaugh and Amber Schell.
