Norman “Norm” David Janzen “The Brownie Man”, age 77, of Henning, Minnesota passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023, in Perham Health in Perham, Minnesota.  

Norman was born on January 15, 1946, in Devils Lake, North Dakota to David and Laura Janzen. He was the first of five boys and was raised on a farm two and half miles south east of Munich, North Dakota. He graduated from Munich High School in 1965. He stayed on the farm for two and half years before moving to Devils Lake.  

Norm went to work at Tom’s Texaco where he met his first love walking across the gas station lot. Norm was united in marriage to Joanie Mootz the following July and were married five months when Norm received his orders. Norman served with the United States Army starting on January 14, 1969, and fought overseas in Vietnam for 14 months before he was Honorably Discharged on August 16, 1970. 

To their union, Joanie and Norm welcomed two sons Brad and Ryan. Norman worked for Warehouse foods when he first came home from the service before going to work for Pepsi. He worked in the Service Department and delivered pop machines for nine years. Norm had a lot of fun working at Pepsi with his good friends Terry Olson and Ron Heisler. 

Norm left Pepsi and went to work at Leevers Foods driving semi and delivering milk. He did this until his retirement 23 years later in September 2011. Norm took care of Joanie until her passing on November 18, 2016.  

In 2020, Norman found love again in Tammy Balzum and they were united in marriage in January 2021 making their home in Henning, Minnesota. 

Deeply loved, Norm’s passing will be mourned by his wife of two years Tammy; his sons Brad (Shauna) Janzen and Ryan (Andrea) Janzen; his grandchildren; brothers: Jerry (Mavis) Janzen and Bob (Cheryl) Janzen; and large extended family and friends. 

Norman is preceded in death by his first wife Joanie, parents David and Laura, and his brothers Glenn and Loren.
