Ogilby E. Scott IV

Ogilby E. “Oby” Scott IV, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025 at his home at the age of 69 years.

Ogilby Eaton, son of Patricia and Ogilby Scott III was born on August 16, 1955 in Savannah, Georgia. At a young age he moved with the family to Riverside, California where he was raised and educated.

Oby entered the United States Navy on October 31, 1974 and served as an electrical/mechanical equipment repairman aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. He was discharged from active duty on August 26, 1976 and continued with the Navy Reserves until October 30, 1980. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Fireman Apprentice.

After his discharge, returned to Riverside, lived and worked for a time, eventually living in Arizona where he met his soul-mate Maureen Olson Kraft. They moved to North Dakota in 1996 and Oby worked for Don Konzak until the rising waters of Devils Lake consumed Don’s land.

Oby didn’t sit idle, he worked a variety of jobs enjoying each one of them until the next adventure. He earned his GED and then continued his education at Lake Region State College where he received certification in Computer Science. Most recently, Oby was employed installing digital billboards for iDigital.

Oby enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing. He had dozens of friends, because he never met a stranger. A short conversation, a hello, a friendly handshake and you were immediately a friend of Oby. And if you were his friend, his neighbor, his family he would do anything he could to help you out. He was helping a neighbor build steps on the day of his passing.

That was Oby. Kind of gruff on the outside, but a heart of gold on the inside.

Oby is survived by his wife Maureen; four sisters; his son Scotty; a favorite sister-in-law, a stepson Nate Berg and two fur babies.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

A Celebration of Oby’s life will take place at a later date.

Oby is in the care of the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake
