Patrick J. Cavanaugh, the son of the late Daniel Cavanaugh Jr. and the late Barbara J. McKay was born in Devils Lake., ND. Patrick James Cavanaugh, 46 of Fort Totten, ND passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at Altru Hospital, Devils Lake ND.

Scatman attended Four Winds School, graduating with the class of 2001. Scatman attended C.C.C.C. in the carpentry class. He was at a time employed with ICS, helping to build the Spirit Lake Hotel and the View, and the Norma Rainbow Elderly Complex. Back in the day he enjoyed his time at the Spirit Lake Fire Hall as a firefighter. In the past he worked at Sioux Manufacturing in Fort Totten.

Scatman enjoyed his quality time with his grandchildren and children. He loved to Facetime his daughters that were miles apart from him. But he enjoyed every minute. His children were his pride and joy.

Pallbearers: Ron McKay Jr., RJ Yankton, Lynn McKay, Jasten McKay, Jake Redfox, Trayvon McKay, Kyle Robertson, and Harry Wolters.

Honorary Bearers: Kohlby McKay, Goosha McKay, Dillon McKay, Azure Boys, Daryl and Kim Three Irons Family, Janifer Jenson and Keith Greywater.

Patrick is survived by his children:

Four Daughters: Skyla and her children Skye and Yammi;

Haven and child,Haylani, 

Halle, and Royalty.

Two Sons: Haydence and LeShawn

Sister: Jessica and her children, Jasten, Jace, and Joran

Brothers: Daniel and his children Dasan, Daniel, Dwight, Dwayne, Dayton, and DaShawn

Jesse and his children Maci Jean and Morgan

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Barbara, sister Danyell Cavanaugh, cousins Jimbo Greywater and Robert Snell Sr., numerous aunts and uncles of the McKay and Cavanaugh families.

Scatman had a huge family of numerous aunts, uncles, and friends and he loved you all!!

Patrick James Cavanaugh, 46 of Fort Totten, ND passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at Altru Hospital, Devils Lake ND.

The Wake for Patrick will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at the Crow Hill Wellness Center, rural Fort Totten beginning at 7:00 p.m. with a time of prayer and remembrance at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Crow Hill will leave on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. from the City Plaza, Devils Lake.

Funeral Services will be on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. also at the Crow Hill Wellness Center with burial in St. Jerome's Cemetery.
