Philomena E. (Eisenzimmer) Schumacher, 99 of St. Michael formerly of Doyon, ND passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at her daughter’s home where she has been cared for the past 24 years.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm and Reverend Paul Schuster concelebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 9th from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.  Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. 

Philomena Eleanor, daughter of Peter and Philomena (Nickles) Eisenzimmer was born on November 16, 1920 in Pierce County, North Dakota. She grew up and was educated in the Balta area.

On February 4, 1942, Philomena was united in marriage to Andrew Schumacher at Balta. They farmed for 10 years, then moved to Doyon, ND where they lived, worked and raised their seven children through the years.  Andrew died in August of 1982. 

Philomena was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, canning the produce and sharing with family and friends.  She had many talents; playing accordion and harmonica, creating many art and craft projects and a green thumb for tending plants and flowers.  She always looked forward to spending time playing cards with her grandchildren and treasured family get-togethers.

Philomena lived in Doyon until 1996 when she suffered a debilitating stroke. She then moved to rural St. Michael, into the home of her daughter, Philomena and was lovingly cared for by the family for 24 years, until her death. 

Philomena is survived by her loving family. Her children Philomena (Louie) Kraft, St. Michael, Marjorie Christianson, Deloris Bokn both of Devils Lake, Martha (Larry) Hagen, Kloten, ND, Jenny (Nick) Richter, Francis Schumacher and Richard Schumacher also all of Devils Lake; 31 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Andrew, daughter Mary and son Joseph both in infancy, grandsons Joseph Kraft and Shane Christianson, granddaughter Gidget Martin, great grandson William Matthew Kraft, grandson-in-law Pepper Fazekas, sisters Mary Bragg and Elizabeth Gollnick, brothers Peter Jr., Rochus, Michael, John, Lawrence, Joseph and Andrew Eisenzimmer, sons-in-law Lloyd Christianson and Jerome Bokn and daughter-in-law Eva Schumacher.

Casket Bearers will be Joshua Fazekas, Jeremy Fazekas, Jake Hagen, Justin Hagen, Larry Hagen and Scott Kraft.
