Randall “Randy” Roy Summers, age 73, entered his Eternal Life on 12/12/2022 while surrounded by his family.
Randy was born to Roy and Delores (Anderson) Summers in Carrington, ND on January 6, 1949. In 1961 the family moved to Devils Lake, ND where he attended Central High School and Lake Region Junior College. He was struck by “love at first sight” upon meeting Carol Nosbusch, whom he married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake on October 31, 1968. Together they raised their four children in Devils Lake, ND, West Fargo, ND, and Park River, ND. Randy and Carol moved to Fargo, ND in September 2021.
Randy worked at Fairmont Foods, but was a meat cutter for most of his career from 1983-2010 at Red Owl, Leevers Super Valu, Jim’s Super Valu, Denny’s, Wally’s, and Hugo’s. He owned and operated The Guest House restaurant for several years and became a great cook. Starting in 2010, he was employed as a caregiver by Life Skills and Transition Center in Grafton, ND until his retirement in September 2015. After retirement, he continued to volunteer and mentor clients.
Carol taught him how to crochet and over the decades he made 100’s of afghans for various organizations, including First Care Health Center, Pregnancy Help Center, and St. Gianna and Pietro Molla Maternity Home, in addition to those he made for family and friends. He had a lifetime interest in his family heritage, and Norwegian roots (including learning to speak Norwegian), old movies, old cars, popcorn, cribbage, travel, music, and spending time with family and friends. Randy was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Kevin Summers; his beloved parents-in-law Ralph and Mary Ann Nosbusch; and his sister-in-law Diane Forde.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, children Shawn (Karla), Grand Forks, ND; Shannon (Steve Hughes), Manvel, ND; Nicole, Fargo, ND; Kelly (Jason Goebel), Fargo, ND; grandson Cody (Kaylee) Bjorneby, Buxton, ND, who expressed that serving as his grandfather’s pallbearer is a “great honor”; beautiful granddaughters and great-granddaughters he was blessed with as they joined his family through marriage: Ronnie Kay Hughes (Miguel Cook); Addison Goebel; Megan Bach (Travis) and their daughters Rayna, Emma, and Leah; Courtney Hartley (Jack), Taylor Hammer (fiance Chase); his sisters Jenille (Charley) Skill, Bellevue, NE; Connie (David) Jones, Webster, ND; Pam (Dan) Kraft, Devils Lake, ND; Michelle (Nick) Iverson, Starkweather, ND; and Roxanne (Mike) Barendt, Devils Lake, ND; and many beloved nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Recently Randy was asked by his wife if he had any words of wisdom. His reply, “go with the flow-I’ve had fun”.
