Richard P. Schwab

Richard Peter Schwab passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at his home due to complications of dementia. He was in the loving care of his sons and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Richard Peter Schwab was born on December 15th, 1940, the 3rd son of Dennis and Marie (Keller) Schwab at the farm home in Strasburg, North Dakota where he attended a rural school.

He moved with his family to Devils Lake ND in 1955. He attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and St. Mary’s High School. Richard worked at various jobs; earlier years he helped his Dad doing janitorial work, shining shoes, and cutting lawns. He wasn’t afraid of work which stayed with him his whole life.

He was united in marriage to Frances Volk on September 8th, 1962 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They were blessed with two sons Kent and Kyle. Richard worked for City Service Gas Station, Westland Gas Station, Ramsey Motors, then as a car salesman for the Chrysler Center where he became co-owner and then eventually sold to Jack and Hal Crawford. He continued transporting vehicles for the Chrysler Center years after retirement. He also enjoyed working for Don Noltimier on his farm when Don needed an extra hand. His secret wish would have been to be a farmer.

Richard was a people person. He loved to visit with anyone that would listen and enjoyed meeting new people. Richard was a born salesman. Even after retiring from the Chrysler Center in 2003 he still continued to sell many items; from vehicles to lawnmowers, tractors and the list goes on. He loved to make something old look new again which he did on many occasions. He actually loved to cut grass and clear snow from his driveway and all the neighbors.

He was a life member of St. Joseph Church, Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge.

Richard is survived by his two sons Kent (Jackie-April, Bradley and Allie) Schwab and Kyle Schwab; brothers Gerald Schwab and his wife Ann and Randy Schwab; sister Delores Isakson; sisters-in-law Lois Volk and Linda Schwab; many nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances in February of 2021, brothers Duane Schwab and Adrian Schwab, father-in-law and mother-in-law Christian and Christine Volk, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Elizabeth and William Meyer, Dorothy and Earl Solem, Richard Volk, John Isakson, and Geneva Schwab, niece Jacque Schwab.

Services will be held at a later date.
