Rickie C. Schempp, 65 of Minot, formerly of Rugby and St. Michael ND passed away on July 4th, 2025 at Minot Health and Rehab.
There will be a graveside service for Rickie on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, St. Michael ND with Reverend Paul Schuster officiating.
Rickie Charles Schempp, son of Helen (Weil) and Fred Schempp Sr. was born on April 7, 1960 in Breese, Illinois. The family lived in Southern Illinois until 1970 when they moved to St. Michael, ND. He attended Warwick Public School and later earned his GED.
He entered the North Dakota Army National Guard in 1977 but soon enlisted in the regular Army on August 2, 1978. He served much of his active duty at Fort Benning, Georgia as a machine operator for general construction projects. He was honorably discharged on March 17, 1979.
After Rickie’s discharge, he worked for many years in the oil fields in Western North Dakota and Wyoming. In the early 1990’s a motor vehicle accident in Wyoming would change his life forever. He suffered severe injuries requiring months of hospitalization and rehabilitation so his mother and her friend Beverly brought Rickie back to North Dakota where he lived until his passing on the 4th of July.
Most of this past decade were spent living in Rugby ND and had just recently moved to Minot.
Rickie had many talents and enjoyed taking on the challenge of any arts and crafts project put before him. He was an animal lover, especially of kittens and cats.
Rickie was a proud American who served his country. He was thankful every day for the blessing of family and friends who cared for him, cared about him and loved him with all their heart. Rest in peace.
Rickie is survived by his mother Helen Beck; his siblings Anna (Gary) Fenner, Starkweather ND, Bobby Joe (Tammy) Schempp Sr., Chaffee, ND, Fred C. Schempp Jr., St. Michael ND and Jeffrey L. Schempp also of St. Michael; several cousins, nieces, nephews and their families also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father Fred, brother Freddie O. Schempp, step dad James Beck, and dear grandparents, aunts and uncles.
