Robert Garske

Robert “Bob” Harold Garske, 78 of Devils Lake, North Dakota, passed away September 17, 2023, at his home, with his loving wife by his side. 

Bob was born March 2, 1945, in Devils Lake, the son of Harold and Hazel (Anderson) Garske. He attended schools in Devils Lake. 
He married Martha Ann Thompson on August 28, 1965, in Baja, Ca. Together they made their home in Long Beach, Ca and Devils Lake ND, raising two sons, Robert Jr (Bob) and Garry. 

At the age of 16, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in May 1962 until 1968 when he was honorably discharged. He worked for the Long Beach Naval shipyard as a sheet metal mechanic. He worked his way to supervisor, taking every special class offered plus two years at Long Beach City College. He retired in 1994. 

He enjoyed riding the dunes in Glamis, Ca, spending time in his shop/garage, his passion was building and restoring cars, spending time with his family, especially grandchildren. 

Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha; sons, Robert Jr of Phillips Ranch, Ca and Garry (Sharon Catterall), Pensacola, FL; brothers, Gary (Claire) Garske, Lynn (Loie) Garske; sister Bette (Mike) Schell, all of Devils Lake; grandkids Kyle (Sabrina Schroeder) Garske, Amanda Garske, Jeremi Garske, Jaysen Garske, Caden Garske and Alysen Garske; great-grandchildren, Riley, Connor, Spencer, Isaac, and Radley; brother-in-law, Larry (Wanitta) Thompson, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. He was still close with his former daughter-in-law, Tonya Hollenbeck. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Dakota Robert.

Celebration of Life service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Gilbertson Funeral Home in Devils Lake, ND, with visitation one hour before the service 10:00-11:00 am. 
Inurnment with military honors will be at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery in rural Webster, North Dakota on Friday, September 29th at 3:00 p.m.
