Robert Jerome “Jerry” Joshua began his journey to the Spirit World on Sunday, August 3, 2025, in Devils Lake, ND. Jerry was the son of Lawrence and Florence (Castellano) Joshua and was born on December 29, 1960, in California where his parents were attending college. He was baptized in New Mexico in an historic church, which was a memory he treasured throughout his life.
At an early age, the Joshua family moved back to North Dakota and made their home in Fort Totten. Jerry graduated from Four Winds High School where he was active in cross-country running and a boxer. Later in life, Jerry continued his education at Cankdeska Cikana Community College in Fort Totten.
Jerry met Mildred Hill, and they made a life together for 43 years, raising their children Robert Anthony, Dusty Jerome, Robyn Elizabeth, Rainy Iris, Alias Edward and Dennis Ephriam.
Jerry continued his boxing as a Golden Gloves Boxer and followed the rodeo circuit around the country as a Saddle Bronc Rider, Bull Rider and Bareback Rider. He achieved remarkable success as a boxer and on the rodeo circuit.
For 13 years, Jerry was employed at Sioux Manufacturing Corp. Most recently he has worked a variety of jobs at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort.
Jerry faced many challenges in his life but felt blessed to have the love and support of family and friends. Rest in peace.
Jerry’s loving family left to mourn his passing include his children Dusty (Lorena) Joshua, Robyn Joshua, Alias Hill, Dennis Hill III and Melanie Meade; grandchildren Rainy “Dancing Feather”, Robert Anthony Michael, Dusty Jerome Jr., and Brian Joseph Richard Joshua, Jerome Everett Thompson, Iris, Damian, Lawrence, Rihanna, Madysen, Amaya, Tuswecha, Tucker, Janet and Siri; siblings Tom Joshua, Amanda Joshua, Brenda Joshua, DelRae Joshua and Rosie Joshua; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by her parents, son Robert Anthony Joshua, daughter Rainy Iris Hill, brother Lawrence “Larry” Joshua Jr., grandparents and many loved aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Pallbearers for Jerry will be Dennis E. Hill III, Vernon SpottedBird, Paul Lawrence Sr., Duane Smith, Lionel Dunn and William Tomahawk.
Honorary Bearers will be Son Son Littlewind, Bruce Whiteman Sr., Colton Andy McKay, Pernell Cavanaugh, Louie and Hopsty DuBois, Patty TwoHearts, Roger Charboneau Sr., Kyle Cavanaugh, Dane Cavanaugh and Donovan Robertson. If we forgot to name anyone, it was not intentional. Please forgive us in this very difficult time.
