Roger Dennis Tofsrud, 76 a life long farmer of the Tofsrud Homestead, Minnewaukan ND passed away on Wednesday, NOvember 19, 2025 at CHI, Devils Lake Hospital.
Roger Dennis Tofsrud, son of Gilbert and Agnes (Value) Tofsrud was born on January 27, 1949 in Rugby, North Dakota. He grew up in Minnewaukan/Brinsmade area, attending school at Minnewaukan. He graduated from Minnewaukan High School.
In his early twenties, he lived in Everett, Washington and worked for a logging company. But the land he loved, the family farm that was established in the 1800’s called him home and he never wandered from it. Farming was his passion. He treasured the land, was a good steward of the land, he felt blessed to carry on the farming tradition established by his grandfather.
Roger did winter in Arizona for several years and most recently had been living in Devils Lake due to increasing health problems.
Roger was at one time married to LaVonne Volden. He welcomed LaVonne’s daughter Shelly and they were blessed to add three more children to their home Travis, Troy and Nikki.
Roger loved learning the history of the world, the country, his home state and of the community where he lived. He read books, he watched documentaries, he explored cemeteries just to learn as much as he could about his ancestors and those who came before him. He knew and treasured the companionship of animals, especially his dog Sheeba and the beauty of nature. Family and friends meant the world to him and he had come to enjoy his church family at Bethel Evangelical Free Church.
He spent his life tending the land with devotion, leaving behind fields that carry his legacy. His passing marks the end of a season, but the seeds of his hard work will continue to grow in our memories.
Roger is survived by his loving family. His son Travis and better half Jennie Orr of Devils Lake; daughters Nikki and her husband Jeff Jasper of Cando, ND; Shelly Charett and her husband Aaron Peltier, grandchildren Jackson and Bria Jasper and Colbi Peltier; brother Duane Tofsrud of Minneapolis, MN and several dear nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Troy, brother Glenn Tofsrud, sister Yvonne Cowan and niece Terri Owlboy.
