Ronald V. Weinmann, 74, of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at his home.

Ronald Vincent Weinmann was born on April 14, 1945 to Vincent and Adeline (Muscha) Weinmann in Harvey, ND. He was raised on farms and attended school in Harvey, graduating in 1963.  He then attended college at North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND where he was a member of the first wrestling team the school had and received a degree in Automotive Repair.  After graduating he moved to Sioux City, Iowa t work when he decided to enlist.

Ron was a member of the Iowa Air National Guard 185th TAC Fighter Squadron.  He was deployed to Vietnam in May 1968 and was stationed at Phu Cat, Vietnam until May 1969.  After returning home to Iowa, he moved back to North Dakota and attended North Dakota State School of Science for a degree in Business, and then moved to Fargo to attend NDSU where he received a degree in University Studies and a Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University. 

Ron was united in marriage to Loretta Schmaltz on December 28, 1973 in Balta, ND. They started their life together in West Fargo, ND where they were active members of the Jaycee Club. In 1979 they moved to Devils Lake, ND where they continued to be active members of the Jaycee Club and Ron began his career as the Director of the Small Business Management Program at Lake Region College.  After 35 years of teaching at the college level throughout North Dakota he retired.  He spent the last 5 years working at Leever’s in Devils Lake and got great joy making small talk with friends as they came through aisles 5 and 6.  Ron and Loretta raised their children in Devils Lake and continue to call it their home. 

One of his proudest accomplishments was being President of the Devils Lake Park Board and having the Mike Dosch Memorial Swimming Pool open in 1993. Ron was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served as a CCD Instructor for over 15 years and also served as a Cub Scout Leader. 

He loved his faith and his family deeply, especially attending events of his children and grandchildren. He loved working in his garden and on his classic car that originally belonged to his grandfather, a 1951 Buick Roadmaster.  Ron was an avid blood donor and gave over 4 gallons to others.

Ron is survived by his wife Loretta; daughter Shannon (Travis) Simon, Fargo, sons Shane Weinmann, Devils Lake and Shawn (Sara) Weinmann, Moorhead, MN; precious grandchildren Macullen, Maven and Lachlan; siblings Dennis (Kathleen) Weinmann, Harvey, ND, Curt (Marydean) Weinmann, New Rockford, ND, Gary (Carol) Weinmann and Laurie (Tom) Wiedmeier all of Harvey; in-laws Marion Jenson, Pasco, WA, Ken (Lou) Schmaltz, Ocean Park, WA, Leonard Schmaltz, Grand Forks, ND and Patty Schmaltz, Goodlettsville, TN, many nieces and nephews and family friend Judy Cox, Devils Lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Daniel and Frances Schmaltz and special friends Mike and Betty Dosch.

Mass of Christian Burial for Ron will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Devils Lake with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm and Reverend Michael Schommer concelebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Cecilia’s Catholic Cemetery, Harvey, ND at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team-Air Force.

Visitation will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Devils Lake on Thursday, May 16, 2019 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. led by Reverend Mr. Ken Severinson, Deacon. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.

Casket Bearers for Ron will be Frank Mack, Leonard Schmaltz, Dennis Weinmann, Gary Weinmann, Curt Weinmann, Stacy Twete and Terry Wallace. Reading the Scriptures will be Shannon Simon and bearing the precious gifts will be Macullen, Maven and Lachlan.
