Shirlene Josephine Feather

Shirlene Josephine Feather, age 43 was born on September 5th , 1981 to Cathy TwoHearts and the late Stacy James Feather Sr. in Devils Lake at Mercy Hospital. She began her journey to the Spirit World on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo,ND.

Shirlene lived in Fort Totten her entire life. She attended Four Winds Elementary School until 6th grade. She then went to Pierre Indian Learning Center in South Dakota where she graduated from the 8th grade. She worked in the summer youth program. When she turned 18, she started working at the Spirit Lake Casino. She also worked in various departments at the Casino including Food and Beverage, Housekeeping, Cage Cashier and at the BINGO Hall where she was a BINGO caller. She worked for Lori and Louise Navarette at their café for a time. Her work history also included employment with DTI, SMC, Refuse, and Cankdeska Cikana Community College. Eventually she was a stay-at-home mom and grandma.

In 1996, Shirlene met Michael Buckels and they were the proud parents of six children. After they separated, she met James “Jimbo” Graywater. The remained together up until he passed away in April 23, 2023.

Shirlene enjoyed being with family and friends, going to family get togethers, birthday parties, cookouts and other holidays. She loved to laugh and joke around, she always had a smile. Or greeted people with a hi or hello. She had respect for everyone. She would open her home to family members and would help others in need. She did her best for her kids and grandkids.

Shirlene enjoyed going for walks, visiting family and friends, also going for rides when she got the chance too. And we can’t forget she LOVED visiting on the phone with those she was close too.

During her younger days she and her sister, Cheryl loved spending weekends with their Grandma Rachel, always a fun time for them.

Our precious Shirlene is gone too soon and leaves behind her loving family: Her mother, Cathy TwoHearts; daughters Shirissa, Michaela, Shylene, Michelene, Ellionna and Laileeyah Buckles; son Mikah Buckles; brothers Stacy J. Feather Jr., Calvin Feather, and Edward LaVallie; sisters Sharon Feather, Jonelle WalkingEagle, and Roberta Brown; hunka sisters Lisa and Leah Killsplenty; stepson Baby Mike Buckles; grandkids Jae-Angelo Griffin, Kalem Hoetl, Kalauni Buckles, SaQani Whiteman, and Haizlynn Buckles; special friends/sisters Joetta ThreeIrons, Lola Waanatan and Lucinda Runnels; former in-laws Raymond and Maxine Buckles; god son Billy Buckles; special nieces and nephews Nevada Feather, Samuel Buckes, DaShawn Charboneau, Kaylece Littlewind, Joanna Buckles, Jerome Elk, Nellie Redowl, other nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles Carol (Kermit) WalkingEagle, Pattie TwoHearts, Rebecca TwoHearts, Lavern Bear, Renita Delorme, Janice Feather, Roger Feather, Bernard (Val) TwoHearts, Isaac TwoHearts, Julius TwoHearts and numerous cousins/family.

Shirlene was reunited with her daughter Shyra Buckles, Dad Stacy Feather Sr., sisters Ila Feather and Cheryl Feather, brothers Jason Feather, Sr., Richard Feather Sr. and Sheldon Dogskin, grandparents Michael and Rachel (Smith) TwoHearts, Charles and Josephine Feather, special friend James “Jimbo” Graywater, children’s father Raymond Michael Buckles and other family members from both the Feather and TwoHearts families; godparents Demus and Bernadette McDonald.

The Wake for Shirlene will be held at the Fort Totten Recreation Center on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza, Devils Lake.

Funeral Services for Shirlene will be on Wednesday, May 21st at 10:00 a.m. at the Recreation Center with burial in St. Jerome’s Cemetery.
