Shirley Ann Hager was born on March 15, 1961, to Jack and Agnes Schmaltz Hager in Devils Lake ND. In her younger years they lived on a farm by Edmore, ND and in 1972 they moved to the farm just a couple miles north of Devils Lake. Shirley went to school and graduated from Devils Lake High School with the class of 1980. She then went onto UND in Grand Forks and graduated with a degree in Library Science. After graduating she worked at the GF Public Library for a few years and then began a career of 30 years as a Sales Associate with Sears in Grand Forks. She was a very dedicated employee of Sears and worked until the last day they were open. After Sears closed, she went to work at TJ Maxx, working in the office. Her health forced her to stop working a few years ago.

Shirley had challenges in life, having been born with disabilities and having very little use of one of her arms, she didn’t let her handicap get in her way. She loved to go to work and visit with the customers and her co-workers, she rarely missed a day. She had many friends she enjoyed spending time with and going out to eat with. Shirley had a special bond with her cousin Audrey and husband Scott Nelson, helping with the Holiday baking and cooking, they looked after her and took her to appointments.

Shirley also loved family reunions where she could see all the cousins and their kids and visit with her siblings, aunts and uncles, family meant a lot to her. She looked forward to seeing new pictures and keeping up to date with family and friends on Facebook. Shirley was a very kind person with a big heart that worried about others and always had a smile. Shirley’s independence was recently taken away, after some health issues this summer. She had just recently moved into Golden Acres Manor in Carrington, ND.

Shirley is survived by her brother, Robert “Bob” Hager, Devils Lake, ND and sister Anita Hager, Coeur d’ Alene, ID. Nephews, John and wife Macinze Coyle and their daughters, Gracie, Kate and Jane; Braden Hager and Sophia; and Niece, Madison and husband Tyler Cooper. Special cousin, Scott Nelson, who took great care of Shirley and looked after her. Many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins also survive.

Shirley is preceded in death by, her parents, Jack and Agnes and her brother, Paul Hager, aunts, uncles and cousins.
