Shirley Ann Johnson, 84 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Eventide Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.

A Graveside Service will be held at Hillside Cemetery, rural Oberon, ND at a date yet to be determined.

Shirley Ann, daughter of Ruth (Bakken) and Wallace Johnson Sr. was born on June 7, 1942, in Maddock, ND. Shirley was one of nine siblings, growing up in the Oberon/Maddock area. She graduated from Oberon High School with the class of 1960. Shirley enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served her country stateside at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

After her discharge, Shirley lived for a brief time in Texas, then attended a business school in Fargo, ND. She returned to San Antonio, Texas and made a lifelong career as a truck driver/forklift operator/laborer with the CPS Electric Power Company in San Antonio. She was a dedicated employee, and it was a great loss to the company when Shirley retired.

Shirley wanted to be closer to family in retirement, so she moved to Ruskin, Florida where her brother and niece lived. She had several wonderful years with family there, but as her health declined and when her brother passed away, she decided it was time to come home to North Dakota.

For the past few years, Shirley has been a resident of Eventide Heartland Care Center, but more importantly she has been surrounded by the love and care of her sisters and their families who call North Dakota home.

Shirley had a passion for her canine friends. She always had a houseful of rescue dogs. She had many talents including keeping her vehicle in tip-top shape, changing her own oil, and doing minor repairs. It was always road ready for those trips, every summer to North Dakota to visit family, especially her mom.

Shirley felt truly blessed to have love of family and friends, especially her special friend Terri Dillon in her life through the years.

Shirley is survived by her sisters Paulette (Palmer) Odden, Devils Lake, Alice Sogge, Minnewaukan, ND and Patty Visk, Fargo, ND; many nieces, nephews, cousins.

She was reunited with her parents Wallace and Ruth, brothers Wallace Johnson Jr. and David Johnson, sisters Phyllis Phagan, Burnelle Stull, and Fay Broten and dear friend Terri.
