Stanley James Littlewind, “Šna Duta Wicaša” (Red Blanket Man) 54 years old, started his earthly journey April 1, 1966 in Devils Lake, ND. He started his journey home Thursday, February 4, 2021 at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital. He was the son of Joseph Abraham and Catherine Littlewind.
Stanley attended school at (Tata Topa) Four Winds School and graduated on May 29, 1987. Stanley went on to continue his Higher Education at Cankdeska Cikana Community College and received a Carpentry certificate on 2007 and his Finishing Carpentry certificate on 2016. He then went on to receive his Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts on May 11, 2018. While attending Cankdeska Cikana college he made the President and Dean’s list several times.
Stanley’s work history: Sioux Manufacturing, Dakota Tribal Industries, he also drove the Spirit Lake Casino shuttle, and Gordon Nelson’s farm construction company. His last employment was at Spirit Lake Tribal Housing program. He had just received his CDL and was looking forward to driving trucks.
Stanley loved his daughter Carrie very much and was happy when he got to spend time with her and cherished those times.
Stanley enjoyed star quilting, lifting weights, and he liked to go running out on the country roads. On one occasion he shared with his sister, he said one time he was running on a back road and was feeling kind of lazy that day, but he had an experience he looked back, and a badger running behind him and inspired him to run faster. He believed in his cultural language and he participated in fancy and traditional dancing during his younger years. Also enjoyed riding horses and competed in a few rodeo events. Stanley was an easy going quiet guy. He was loved by many, and his family will miss him but his spirit will live on in hearts forever.
Stanley is survived by his daughter, Carrie Ann Anderson (Cody Gunville); granddaughter Carly Gunville; brothers, Calvin “Gopher” Littlewind, Richard (Tammy) Littlewind, Wesley Littlewind, and Jacob Abraham; sisters, Eunice (David) Davidson, and Rachael Littlewind; special niece and nephew, Bridget Littlewind and Jonathan Littlewind; and many other dear nieces, nephews, cousins; aunts: Lorraine Greybear, Sylvia Weber; uncle John (Mona) Chaske; special friend, Maricia Littlewind; stepdaughter De’meika Catherine Littlewind;; godchild Austin Jade Littlewind
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents Catherine Littlewind and Joseph Abraham, sister Jolene Littlewind-Feather, grandparents Joseph and Martha (HighElk) Littlewind, Jerome and Jenny (Mazakahomni) Abraham, brothers Kenneth Abraham, Richard Abraham and Wesley Abraham. Stanley is a descendent of Canhdeskatawa, Waanatan and Inkpaduta.
Pallbearers: Lionel Dunn, Duane Littlewind, Tyson Littlewind, Victor Rainbow, Glen Abraham, Davey Davidson, Louis K. Dubois, Robert “Cha” Cavanaugh.

Visitation for Stanley will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a time of prayer and remembrance at 7:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday from City Plaza.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 12, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at the church with burial in St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery. Reverend Paul Schuster will celebrate the Mass. Family invites friends and family for take-out meals at the Crow Hill Recreation Center following the burial on Friday.
