Thomas S. Longie Sr., “of Fort Totten ND began his journey to the Spirit World on July 4, 2025 at Essentia Health in Fargo at the age of 54 years.
There will be visitation for Thomas at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Friday, July 11, 2025 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave on Friday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza, Devils Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the church with burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Thomas Scott Longie, son of Mary (Cavanaugh) and Timothy C. Longie Sr. was born on October 22, 1970 in Devils Lake, ND. He spent most of his life on the Spirit Lake Nation.
Thomas attended Four Winds School, where he excelled in cross-country running and track events. He worked at Dakota Tribal Industries as a mechanic, fixing sewing machines and Sioux Manufacturing for several years but found his real talent in building construction when he worked for Walt Hollifield and later Marvin Carter.
In his younger years, Thomas loved fishing, gardening, playing pool, horse shoes, dice and cards. He loved to cook and share his creations with family and friends. He took on many fixing/repair/building projects for family and friends. Unfortunately, health struggles limited many activities over these past few years.
No matter what activity or job Thomas was involved in, he always made new and lasting friendships. He still had track buddies and work buddies that he kept in contact with. His family was a true blessing in his life and each one meant the world to him in their own special way.
Thomas is survived by his loving family which include his children Ashlie Longie, T.J. Longie Jr., Shania Longie, Quaide Longie, Brandon Langstaff, JC Davis and Sloane Davis; precious grandchildren Shyra, Baby Boy, Xavier, Kiya, Kendrick, Kaysen, Zaylon, Malcolm, Lane, Markel, Forrest, Leah, Eli, Maleine and many others who called him “Grandpa”; special friend Lola Waanatan; siblings Terri Welch, Tim Longie Jr., Robert Longie, Lori (Frank) Gourd, Jacquie(George)Demarce, Special niece Tristian Longie; aunt/uncle and godparents Geralyn Longie and the late George Longie; aunts Frances Longie and Yvonne Longie and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins, many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Frank Longie, Timothy Longie Sr., Jeff Cavanaugh, B.J. Adams, Felix Wallette, Mickey Wilkie, Chief Waanatan, Jean (Francis)Roulette, Four Winds Classmates, Cross Country and Track Teammates, all his friends and family.
Active Pallbearers will be Thomas Longie Jr., Daylon White, Grant Cavanaugh, Beau Longie, Frankie Longie, David Dunn, Loren GreyBear Jr., Frank Gourd Jr., Dallas “Hoss” Welch, and Damon Cavanaugh.
