Thomas J. “Tom” Maloney, 79 of Devils Lake formerly of Webster, ND passed away at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks on Saturday, May 3, 2025 with loving family at his side.
There will be a visitation at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, May 10th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Matthew Kraemer celebrating the Mass. There will be a time of fellowship following the Mass at the Parish Center with burial to follow in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, rural Webster, ND.
Thomas John Maloney was born on October 4, 1945 to Leo and Eileen (Kain) Maloney in Devils Lake, ND. He was raised on the Maloney Homestead farm by Webster, ND where he spent most of his life. He graduated from Central High School in Devils Lake and Wahpeton State School of Science.
Tom married Karen Forness on September 1, 1964. They lived, farmed and raised their children on that farm. Tom was through and through a farmer. He was active in the community and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus and member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church until it closed.
Tom was very proud of his Irish heritage and had many, many lifelong friends.
Tom married Sandra Nelson on August 18, 2007 after retiring from farming. They lived in Devils Lake but were “Snowbirds” in the winter months and traveled to many places and had friends from all over the United States. Their second home was Buckeye, Arizona which they loved.
Tom is survived by his wife Sandra; children Terry Maloney, Devils Lake, Matthew Maloney, Sheyenne, ND, Kristi Hoey, Devils Lake and stepson Daniel Nelson, Tonopah, Arizona; grandchildren Dylan (Sarah) Bosak, Fargo, Ashley Maloney also of Fargo, Ramsey Hoey, Chicago, Illinois, Parker (Matt) Keller, Bismarck, Julian Hoey, and Jade Hoey both of Fargo, Cody Nelson and Courtney Nelson of Arizona; great grandchildren Uriah and Micah, Fargo and Jones of Bismarck; sister Marge Nelson, Devils Lake; brother Reverend (Abbott) Daniel Maloney, Bismarck ND; sister-in-law Lois Nelson, Grand Forks; brother-in-law Edwin Sobak of Devils Lake; several nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jack Maloney, grandson Scott Maloney, stepson David Nelson and sisters Mary Plog and Pat Fredericks.
