Trent O. “Doc” Aronson, of Bismarck ND passed away in the presence of his loving family on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. He was 78 years old. Trent and his family unselfishly agreed to Life Source organ donation following his death.

Funeral Services for Trent will be held on Friday. August 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake with Reverend Mr. Ken Severinson, Deacon officiating. There will be a time of fellowship to follow at the Devils Lake Elks Lodge with burial in the Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Doyon ND at 12:45 p.m. on Friday. Since he did not enjoy formal gatherings, Trent requested casual attire for his service.

Trent Oliver Aronson was born on March 6, 1947, in Devils Lake ND. The son of Selmer and Genevieve (Oliver) Aronson grew up in Doyon ND and attended Doyon and Crary Public Schools from grades 1-11. As a senior, Trent transferred to Lakota High School and graduated with the class of 1965, He continued his education at Lake Region Junior College in Devils Lake, North Dakota State University in Fargo, Valley City Teacher’s College and graduated from UND, Grand Forks with a degree in Business Administration. Trent often said, “The best 4 years of college were my sophomore year at UND”.

Trent was united in marriage to Louella “Lou” Bertsch on March 31, 1978. They established their home in Doyon for 13 years, then moved to Devils Lake.

For over 15 years, Trent farmed in rural Doyon with his brothers. He then became an Investigator for Lake Region Child Support Services in Devils Lake, retiring in 2009.

After retirement, the family moved to Bismarck where they enjoyed retirement. They spent many winters in Arizona but always returned to North Dakota each spring.

Trent was a baptized and confirmed member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Doyon. He was also a “card carrying” Elks Lodge member, who never was asked to show his membership card to get into any Elks Lodge he visited.

Trent was always an avid hunter and fisherman. He could tell stories about the fishing trips to Canada. The family enjoyed many summers camping, fishing, and visiting with family and friends. He supported his boys when they played baseball, football, and hockey in their younger years. He also loved to watch his nieces, nephews, and their kids play baseball, basketball, football, and hockey.

Though Trent may no longer walk beside us, his spirit will be with us always. Rest in peace.

Trent’s loving family include his wife Lou of 47 years; sons Travis Aronson, Bismarck and Cory Aronson, Phoenix, AZ; sister Twyla (Leo) Boyle, Devils Lake; brother Tracy (Jackie) Aronson, Crary, ND; sisters-in-law Linda (John) Frelich and Julie Zander of Devils Lake, Laurie (Keith) Deutsch, Plaza ND and Rosella Aronson, Doyon and brother-in-law Tom (Julie) Bertsch also of Devils Lake; He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families and Karen and Darryl Dolan families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Terry Aronson, brother-in-law Terry Zander, father-in-law and mother-in-law Tom Bertsch and Lena Bertsch-Frith.
