Vance Geroge Jury was born to Eldon and Myrtle (Norby) Jury on August 30, 1945, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He attended Fullerton Public School and graduated in 1963. After one year at Ellendale State Teachers College, he transferred to North Dakota State University, Fargo and graduated in 1967 with a B.S. in Agricultural Economics.

He married Hope Annette Fowle on December 28, 1968, in Jamestown, North Dakota. They bought the family farm in Fullerton from Eldon in 1970 and continued to farm until retirement in 2001. He was the fourth generation to own and third to actually farm, this place. It was designated as an ND Centennial Farm in 2007. In 2016 the farmstead was sold and he and Hope moved to Devils Lake to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren.

At NDSU he became a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. In 1967 he was elected to the Kentner Township Board and served as Supervisor and Assessor until moving to Devils Lake. He served as the Director and Secretary for the North Dakota Lamb and Wool Producers and was named the ND Master Sheep Producer in 1987. He also served as County President and Director for the Dickey County Farm Bureau and was a board member of the Fullerton School Board. He served as Treasurer for the Fullerton Centennial Committee and was a member of the Fullerton Betterment Association. He also has been a 4-H Leader and was honored with the 4-H alumni award in 1992. For several years he was the Assessor for the cities of Fullerton and Ellendale and three townships. After moving to Devils Lake, he become a regular participant in the activities of the Frist United Methodist Church.

The fellowship of the Masonic Lodge was important to him. He was the Secretary of the Ellendale Lodge #13 for many years. After moving to Devils Lake, he became a member of the Devils Lake Lodge #21 and later joined Church Ferry Lodge #54. As a member of the Yelduz Shrine in Aberdeen and later the KEM Shrine in Grand Forks, he fully supported the mission of the Shriners Hospitals.

He loved to fish, kept his family supplied with venison, was on a bowling team for many years and loved playing cards. Late in life he started looking at garage sales for old clocks to fix. He very much enjoyed socializing with and teasing his many friends.

Vance is survived by his wife, Hope, his daughter Barbara Jury-Britsch (Steve) of Devils Lake, his son Russell Jury of Milbank, SD and grandchildren Matthew Britsch (fiancé Hope Mehlhoff), Aberdeen, SD and Kayla Britsch-currently a student at UND, Grand Forks.
