Vivian Doris Jetty (Mason)

Vivian Doris (Mason) Jetty, “Ixogadagi” (Sage), 78 of St. Michael, ND passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital, after 2 years of suffering multiple health issues related to myasthenia gravis. 

Vivian was born on December 30, 1940, the eldest daughter of Michael and Carolette (Smith) Mason in Elbowoods, ND. She was a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes and belonged to the Waterbuster Clan and was a child of the Dripping Dirt Clan. 

She lived in the Elbowoods area until the family was relocated to Mandaree, ND due to the Garrison Diversion Project. She graduated from Mandaree High School.  Vivian came to Devils Lake, ND to attend Nurses Training, graduating in 1962 as an LPN.  Vivian faithfully served the Spirit Lake Tribe for 30 years working as the WIC certifier. 

After moving to Devils Lake, Vivian met David Jetty and they were married in Minnewaukan and from there on she made Spirit Lake her home. Vivian was a member of the Bdecan Presbyterian Church and also served as an Elder for the Congregation.  Vivian also served on the Dakota Prairie Community Action Board. 

Vivian was a lifelong care giver, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, faithful Christian and a beautiful soul who held true to her traditional values and beliefs.

Vivian is survived by her daughter Marlys Jetty, son Nicholas Jetty and Nickolas David Jetty, her grandson whom she raised, all of St. Michael, ND; ten grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; two sisters Cerese Baker, New Town, ND and Lyda BearsTail, Mandaree; brothers Winston Mason, Provo, Utah and Matt Mason, New Town; sisters-in-law Betty Morin, Devils Lake and Gloria Jetty, St. Michael, ND; brother-in-law Dale GoodIron, New Town; adopted sisters Sharon Georgeson, Hilda Garcia, Alberta Redfox and Geraldine Redfox; many beloved nieces and nephews.

She will be greeted on the other side by her parents; husband David; sons Quentin Terry Mason, Michael Dennis Jetty and Mark Jetty; grandson Brandon Jetty; brothers Micky Mason and Arthur Mason; sister Colette GoodIron; sisters-in-law Genevieve Nash, Doris Jetty Morin, Beatrice Abrahamson, Marie Baker and Isabell Smith;

Ruth Buffalo will serve as the Senior Pallbearer. Active Pallbearers will be Jay Green, Kolby Cavanaugh, Kenny Baker, Jr., Reese Ironshield, Eddie Green and Bryan Jetty.  Honorary Bearers are all of Vivian’s family and friends throughout her years.  We want to thank everyone for their kind words and loving support during our time of sorrow.  We are deeply grateful to all our family and friends.  If we forgot to name anyone it was not intentional.  Vivian loved you all.
