Walter “Tubby” Lang, 81 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Monday, January 9, 2022 at St. Alexius Heath, Devils Lake Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with Rosary and Scripture Service and time of sharing at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, January 14th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Walter James “Tubby” Lang, the son of Frederick and Alvina (DuBois) Lang was born January 15, 1940 in Fort Totten ND and was raised in Tokio ND. Walter attended school in St. Michael’s until its closing. He later acquired his GED and graduated business school in Montana.
Walter enlisted in the United States Army, January 26, 1960. He served as a Staff Sergeant and was stationed in Korea for a short stint. He was honorably discharged from all service in December of 1966.
Walter worked a number of jobs that allowed him to travel to several states, working on oil rigs, doing construction to running the HUD housing project in Fort Totten until he retired. During this time Walter married Norma Marquart on July 3, 1964, raising two children Bryan and Brenda before divorcing in July of 1988. Walter moved back to Devils Lake to be closer to his family.
Walter met Bonnie Jean Baker and the two were married on June 11, 1994. The couple lived the remainder of their lives together in Devils Lake ND surrounded by family and friends.
Walter had a big heart and was willing to help everyone out. No one ever went without.
Walter adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His thoughts were always with them.
Walter will be missed by family and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Jean on October 2, 2015, parents Frederick and Alvina, great grandson Noah and brothers Gerald, Frank, Donald and Richard Lang.
He is survived by his son Bryan (Roxanne) Lang, daughter Brenda (Allen) Joseph; step children Shawna (Stoney) Thronsedt, Paul (Melissa) Poitra Sr., Pamela (David) Birkenbuel and Mary (Jim) Langley; grandchildren Matt (Alyssa) Lang, Mitch (Morgan) Lang, Andrea Vickerman, Samantha (Erhardt) Enslin, Christina (Mat) Talbot and Brendan Joseph: step grandchildren Kyle, Paul J. Jr., Kannon, Ean, Bonnie Jean: Richard, Rebecca, Rachel, Kelsa: Michael, Jacob, Tanner, Taylor: Roshana, Heidi, Sam; great grandchildren Reese Lang, Quinn Lang and Gabriel Enslin and many precious step great grandchildren; sisters Lynda (Alton) Abrahamson, Patricia Wee, Rosemary Wee and sister-in-law Karen Anne Lang along with lots of nieces, nephews and extended family.
