Wayne A. Stubson

Wayne Allen Stubson, age 66, of Warwick, North Dakota passed away peacefully at his Arizona home on December 15th, 2022.

Wayne was born June 6th, 1956 in Devils Lake, ND to Alton and Muriel Stubson.  He attended school in Warwick, graduating in 1974.  He continued his education at North Dakota State University in Fargo where he joined the Theta Chi Fraternity and became a lifelong Bison fan.  In 1979, he moved back home to Warwick and took over the family farm. Wayne and Martha Gilbertson were married in Crosby, ND on July 24th, 1982.  They were blessed with two daughters, Randi on November 18th, 1983 and Jennifer on November 1st, 1986. He farmed until 2000 when he started working at the All Risk Crop Insurance Agency in Devils Lake. He later went on to buy the agency and operated it until the time of his death.

Wayne had many passions in life. He started playing baseball in the backyard at age 4 and went on to play for Warwick High School, Tolna Legion, NDSU, and finished with the Tolna Amateurs. After his playing days were over he continued to enjoy the sport by following his nephew Braydon during his career and by watching the World Champion New York Yankees on TV. Wayne began playing golf in his forties and took many entertaining trips over the years. He and Martha became Arizona snowbirds in 2012 and this allowed him to spend countless afternoons on the course during the winters with his brother Doc and best friends David and Donnie. Wayne had many hunting adventures and the past few years were highlighted by taking his grandchildren out with him. He especially enjoyed his early morning duck hunts with his best buddy Kason. His favorite pastime would be fishing on Devils Lake in the spring and summers. Wayne has passed on the fishing bug to his beloved Jossy and Cole. They spent many hours on the lake together and he politely “taught” Cole to be an expert at backing up the trailer. His treasured morning routine involved waking Randi up to make him coffee and chat. Jenny inherited his great taste in football teams and their favorite Saturdays were spent in the Fargodome cheering on the Bison.  Above all else, Wayne was an exceptional family man. He loved his family unconditionally and nothing compared to the quality time they got to spend together. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 40 years Martha; daughters Randi (Cole) Lamb and Jennifer Stubson; grandchildren Jossy and Kason Lamb; brother Wade (Eileen) Stubson and sister Wendy Gourneau; nephews Adam (Amanda; children Gabriel, Aurora, Estelle) Stubson, Drew (Trudy) Stubson, and Braydon Gourneau; as well as aunts, cousins, in laws, and cherished friends.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Alton Stubson and Muriel (Don) Wessels; sister Becky Stubson; grandparents; aunts; uncles; in laws.

The Memorial Service will be held at the American Lutheran Church in Tolna, ND on Monday, December 26th, 2022 at 2pm. The visitation will start at 1pm. The service will be live streamed on the Morning Star Parish Facebook page.
