In loving memory of Whalen James Wasacase, “Ta’hinea;ta’hea Sinte (Deer Tail) was born on December 2, 1964 and began his journey to Heaven on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Whalen was born in Broadview, Saskatchawan, Canada on December 2, 1964 to Richard and Marian (Siaka) Wasacase.

Whalen was educated in Fort Totten and Devils Lake and later received his GED.  He worked several different jobs in his lifetime.

Whalen loved playing darts, he had played since he was 18 years old. He liked visiting with family and friends. He enjoyed watching all kinds of sports on TV.  Whalen loved teasing and joking around.

Whalen loved his family with his whole heart and will be deeply missed by his family. Girlfriend Nicole Jacobs; three step-sons Steven Jacobs, Dayton and Mason Green; sister Anita (Aabrekke) Wasacase; brother-in-law Dan Aabrekke; uncle Larry Sullivan; cousins Tyson Sullivan and Tom Sullivan; nephews Tyler Skurdall and his son Ashton, Lucus Christofferson, Thomas Sullivan and Wyatt Sullivan; godson Presley Howard; special friends Brenda Peltier and Wayne Chaske; special niece Ginger Rue and extended family and friends to numerous to mention. 

He was preceded in death by his aunt LaVerne Sullivan, mother Marian (Siaka) Archambault, stepfather Richard Archambault, grandparents Tom and Julia Siaka, daughters Crystal and Kayla Wasacase, cousin TEE Sullivan, sisters Nicole Archambault and Monique Archambault, uncles Paul Little and Martin Little; aunt Alma Nichols.

Active Pallbearers: Wayne Chaske, Tom Sullivan, Dan Aabrekke, Tyler Skurdall, Lucus Christofferson and his 3 step-sons Steven Jacobs, Dayton Green and Mason Green.

Honorary Pallbearers: John and Mona Chaske, Aunt Millie Little, Debbie Little and family, Melanie (Marty) Foote and family, LaRon Greywater and family, Lisa Chaske (Tim) and family, Jolleen and Waylon St. Claire and family, Joan Redfox and family, Peggy Cavanaugh and family, Lori McKay and family, Lila and Carmela Peltier, Lisa and Leah KillsPlenty and family, JoAnn Jacobs, Helen Jacobs, Corby and Arv McKay, Lorene Michel and family, Penny Yankton and family, Denise Jacques and family, Colleen Chaske and family, Bentley Greybear Jr., Josie McKay and family, Jessica McKay and family, all of his dart friends, and many extended family, friends and relatives.

Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Monday, May 16, 2022 beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with lunch to follow. Burial will be on Tuesday, May 17th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Jerome’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Fort Totten.
