William Ray “Bill” Lunak Jr. of Devils Lake, ND passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 10, 2025 at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital at the age of 79.
Funeral Services for Bill will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
William Ray was born on March 13, 1946 in Devils Lake, ND the son of William Ray and Esther (Garske) Lunak. He grew up in Devils Lake and attended Devils Lake Central High School graduating with the class of 1964. He attended a year of college in Chicago, Illinois then decided to return to Devils Lake.
Bill was united in marriage to Joyce Dubois in October of 1976 and they made their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked and raised their family through the years.
Bill had a 30 year career with the Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a laborer and retired as a Track Inspector. Retirement wasn’t in Bill’s nature and he worked as a driver for Senior Meals and Services for 10 more years. Unfortunately, a fall and breaking a hip forced him to slow down and take life a little easier.
In his younger years, Bill enjoyed fishing and playing pool. His main job was driving his grandson Dayton to everything hockey. He was also one of Dayton’s greatest fans. Always encouraging and cheering him on. In these later years, Bill enjoyed playing slot machines, and meeting up with his good friend, and side-kick Frank Yali.
He walked the rails year after year, dust on his boots, grit in his bones, providing for his family with the same steady strength that kept every track in line. He was a kind and caring Senior Meals deliverer, and the most important job was that of a loving husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, uncle, cousin and friend.
Bill’s loving family include his wife Joyce; children Doug Morin, Fargo ND, Lyle Morin, Devils Lake, Lonna (Ray) Siedschlaw, also Fargo, Brian Lunak and Jeff Lunak (Elisha McLaurin) all of Devils Lake; precious grandchildren and great grandchildren; also many dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was reunited with his parents, son Andrew Morin Jr., brothers Albert Grohs Sr. and Dennis Grohs, and in-laws Alice Dubois and Archie Cook.
Urn Bearers will be Bill's Grandchildren: Dayton Lunak, Kinley Lunak, Katelyn McLaurin, Tyler Morin, Ashley Moore, Haleigh Hanson, Roby Hanson, Braydon Hanson, Jacob Hanson Nevaeh Lunak, and Sienna Lunak.
