Winona was united in marriage to Laidman Fox Sr. in December of 1964 and they shared a beautiful life together, raising their 10 children, and fifteen adopted children in the Native American way. They made their home in Fort Totten. Laidman died on December 1, 2002.
Winona worked at Four Winds School for 20 years. She worked in the Enrollment Office, retiring in 2023 at the age of 88. She was very active in the community and served one term as the Chairwoman of the Spirit Lake Elder Advisory Board.
Winona was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and beyond. Her loving, caring nature extended far beyond her immediate family. She prayed for, she reached out to every member of the Spirit Lake Nation offering her support, offering any help she could give and always her love and concern to all. Her quiet demeaner, her soft-spoken words were always words of wisdom.
Winona is survived by her loving family. Her children Lenore WhiteLightning, LaDonna Fox and Laidman Fox Jr.; sister Sally Cavanaugh; many dear and precious grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She also treasured many nieces, nephews, and their families.
