Margaret M. (Sand) Lang, 83 of Devils Lake, formerly of the Cando/Egeland area passed away peacefully early Easter Sunday morning, April 5, 2015 at Heartland Care Center. Mass of the Resurrection for Margaret will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Cando, ND. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND on Wednesday, April 8th beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Margaret Marie, was born on June 2, 1931 on a farm near, Crocus, ND the daughter of Edmund and Irene (Plemel) Sand. She was baptized, confirmed and received her first Holy Communion at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cando. She began school in Crocus, then received the rest of her elementary education in Egeland. She began her freshman year in Cando and graduated from Egeland Public School with the class of 1950. Margaret met her husband to be, Roman Lang at a dance she had attended with her brother, James who was dating Roman’s sister Donna Mae. Margaret was united in marriage to Roman M. Lang on October 26, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and James Sand and Betty Rinas were their attendants. They established their home on the farm north of Egeland. They lived, worked side by side farming and ranching and raised their 6 children, Kathleen, Thomas, John, David, Jerald and JoAnn. In 1986, they retired and moved to Devils Lake. Roman died on April 14, 2004. Margaret continued to live in her own home for several more years, then moved into Heartland Care Assisted Living. In October of 2014, Margaret moved to Heartland Care Center. Margaret was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and the Ladies Aide in RockLake, ND and was also a 4-H Leader for many years. After moving to Devils Lake, Margaret began an active membership in St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Infant of Prague Circle. Margaret was a woman of great faith, courage and strength and she lives on in our hearts forever. Margaret is survived by her loving family. Her children Kathleen( John) Lee, New Rockford, ND, Thomas (Jill Schafer) Lang, Minnewaukan, ND, John Lang, Bozeman, MT, Jerald (Robin) Lang, Bismarck, ND and JoAnn (Steven) Klevenberg, Tioga, ND; daughter-in-law Carol Lang, Egeland, ND; eighteen grandchildren Brent (Joanna) Lee, Juliane (Guy) Halvorson, Steven (Becky) Lang, Kimberly (Nathan) Zentz, Korissa Bergrud, Mitchell (Jennifer Schwab) Weed, Brittany Weed, Jeremy Lang, Jenna Lang, Michael Lang, Gretchen (Chris) Klier, Amanda (Chris) Volmer, Sarah (Mike) Bakke, Jerald Lang, Jr., Erick (Natasha) Thorlaksen, Chelsea (Derek Flory) Lang, Chris Klevenberg and Chad Klevenberg; twenty-three great grandchildren Justin, Tyler, Elizabeth, Nicole, Abigail, Jennie, Amanda, Kaylee, Jaeslei, Caber, Cannon, Mason, Cade, Lux, Gavin, Alivia, Kennedy, Marlee, Evie, Hallie, Jack, Abigail and Addyson; sisters Betty Rinas and Joyce Freund both of Cando; sisters-in-law Harriet Sand, Renton, WA, Violet Sand, Valley City, ND, Viola Fast, Albuquerque, NM and Donna Mae Laturnus, Cando, ND; many nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David; brothers Edmund “Sandy” Jr., James in the Korean War, Harold “Butch” and Anthony “Tony” Sand; sisters Carol Reid and Janice Kramlich. Casket Bearers will be Margaret’s Grandsons. Honorary Bearers will be Margaret’s Granddaughters. Reading the Scripture will be Joanna Lee and Jim Schuler. Eucharistic Minister will be Carol Schuler. Gift Bearers will be the Great Grandchildren. Music will be provided by JoDee Lagein.
